ReCreational Meditations

Re-Creational (adj.): Type of developmental benefit that utilizes recreational activities to implement re-creations of the mind, body, and Spirit.

First off, is it "recreation" or "re-creation"?

The answer is: BOTH!

Recreation is defined as a: "refreshment of strength and spirits". Re-creating ourselves, then, is a crucial, lifelong process, without which we become stagnant.

However, in today's fast-paced, increasingly virtual society, not all of us have time to unplug by conventional means, like immersing ourselves in nature, or settling into the depths of meditation.

But these travelogues and adventure stories will provide you with many of the benefits of re-creation, without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home.

By sharing my trials, failures, successes and lessons distilled from hundreds of hours in seated, moving, and ReCreational Meditation, I hope to inspire others in their own spiritual, mental, and physical re-creations.

Brasstown Bald

October, 2021

In search of epic sunrise views, I arrived at the highest point in Georgia, Brasstown Bald, only to discover massive walls of fog. As the morning drew on, however, some of the fog burned off, allowing for scenic vistas from the roadside overlooks.

Cloudland Canyon State Park

November, 2021

In search of an easy hike to capture stunning sunset views, I visited another Georgia State Park in the extreme northwest corner of the state. Cloudland Canyon offers amazing trails along its rim, as well as several to the canyon floor I have yet to explore.

Helton Creek Falls

April, 2021

With a very short hike from the trailhead to the falls, Helton Creek offers visitors an impressive pair of waterfalls. The larger, upper falls provide a large pool for wading and swimming at their base, and the lower falls offer up-close, climbable slopes for those comfortable scaling the slippery rocks.

Blood Mountain

November, 2021

After working an overnight shift, I hurried to Blood Mountain near Blairsville, GA to experience sunrise at the highest point on the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail.
